    • Born in Thessaloniki – Greece in 1958, he studied (1978-1985) at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien with Prof. Heinrich Schneikart (1929-2008) and graduated with Diploma in Double Bass (1985), attended also master classes seminars with Jorma Katrama (2001) and Duncan Mc Tier (1996). Elaborating the Thesis “Die Griechische Konzertliteratur fϋr Kontrabass”, he was awarded the title “Magister der Künste” of the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien (2002), and after his DMA/PhD dissertation “The Greek composers’ unpublished works for double bass and piano in the 20th century Greece” and the recordings (see below), the “Doctor” title of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University in Corfu (2014), sections of which were presented in 2010 in concerts-lectures in Komotini, in the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki and in “The International Double Bass Convention” at the University of Arts in Berlin.

      From the beginning of his career, he participates in chamber music ensembles, such as: Thessaloniki’s Nonet (1986-1990), Macedonian Chamber Music Ensemble (1991-1994) with which he won the 1st Prize at the 2nd Panhellenic Chamber Music Competition of TIF HELEXPO S.A. (1992), QuARTo Basso (1998-2000), Tangos a Cuatro (2001-2009) with which he released two CD’s, pianoContrabasso (2010-) and ContraVento Quintet (2015- ), thus presenting a wide range of the double bass chamber music works.

      He was a founding member and the principal double bassist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki (1987-2003) with which he appeared as soloist in concertos for double bass and orchestra of Giovanni Bottesini (1989, AUTh Ceremonial Amphitheater) and Georgios Sachinidis, First Performance, 2006, Megaron Thessaloniki) and in 2005 with the S.O. of the Music School of Serres in the concerto of Serge Koussevitzky.

      He initially taught double bass and chamber music at the Synchrono Concervatory of Thessaloniki (1986-2003) and then at the Department of Music Science and Art of the School of Social, Humanities and Arts at the University of Macedonia (2003-2025), where he successfully supervised nine (9) bachelor's degree double bass recitals, seven (7) bachelor's degree thesis/projects, two (2) master's thesis and two (2) doctoral dissertations.

      He participated in workshops and conferences, served as Department Chair (2015-2019) and was a founding member and director (2016-2023) of the "Laboratory for Sound and Video Technologies (ARTS-Lab)" of the Department, while also contributing to the enrichment of the catalog of the Library and Digital Library of the University of Macedonia with donations of books, sheet music and multimedia for the double bass, as well as by creating the "Greek Contrabass Archive (GCA) Evgenios Politis".

      As part of his research activities, he has been scientifically responsible for national, international and self-funded projects, such as: Greece 2.0 - National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Research - Create - Innovate, "Greek Music Audiovisual Collections (M.EL.O.S.)", Operational Program for Education and Initial Vocational Training (EPEAEK) - Measure 5.2.7 "Educational Equipment for Higher Education, Regional Operational Program of Central Macedonia (PEP) - Measure 1.2 "Research and Development Infrastructure".

      He edited the transcriptions: “Five songs for voice and double bass” by A. Scarlatti, W.A. Mozart, Th. Arne, G. Faure και Fr. Durante (Orpheus - M. Nikolaidis, Athens, 2021, ISMN: 979-0-801150-93-6), the “W.A. Mozart Sonata no.21 in e-minor for violin and piano” (Orpheus - P. Nikolaidou, Athens, 2015, ISMN: 979-0-801150-64-6) for double bass and piano, and with Christina Sidiropoulou (piano) the critical edition of the “Concerto for double bass and piano of Georgios Sachinidis with CD included” (Orpheus - M. Nikolaidis, Athens, 2007, ISMN: 979-0-801150-30-1).

      The music production under the Master number 20/2012 in compact disc (CD) format is of approximately 60 minutes total duration. The recording of the Greek composers’ unpublished works for double bass and piano as well as the editing of the sound material was held during the period of June 2012 – July 2013 in the Music Technology Laboratory of the Department of Music Science and Art of the Faculty of Social Sciences Humanities and Arts of the University of Macedonia, from Evgenios Politis (double bass), Christina Sidiropoulou (piano) and the Department’s Technical Staff Member ( E.T.E.P.) sound technician Fotis Sakalis.

      The recordings were made on a Kawai mod. RX5 Piano and a Grancino(1693) replica of František Posta (1919-1991), solo double bass, constructed in 1988 in Möhrendorf-Erlangen by Walter Sandner, with solo strings and tuning F#-B-E-A/F#-B(H)-e-a. Two condenser microphones Neumann Tube H-149 and AKG c12vr were employed in order to obtain comparable potential alternatives for the formation and selection of the original timbral qualities of the solo double bass sound range. Two NEUMANN ΚΜ184 condenser microphones were used for the piano stereo recording”.
