Michael Wolf is professor emeritus for doublebass at the Berlin University of the Arts. He was born in New Jersey, U.S.A., and began studying the doublebass at the age of nine. When he was thirteen years old, he made his first television appearance as a soloist. He completed his first degree with honors in the biological sciences at the University of Southern California, where he worked and published in the field of cancer research (see below). Afterwards, he studied music with Nathaniel Gangursky and became a member of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. He received a Fulbright/DAAD and a Rotary-International scholarship, which brought him to Germany. Before he assumed his position in Berlin, he held a professorship for doublebass on the University of Mainz. His publications include a doublebass method. His radio and solo recordings as well as his concert appearances and masterclasses both domestically and abroad have consistently received the highest critical acclaim.

Michael Wolf wurde 1954 in New Jersey in den USA geboren. Er war Professor für Kontrabass an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Im Alter von neun Jahren begann er Kontrabass zu spielen. Mit 13 Jahren hatte er seinen ersten Solo-Auftritt im Fernsehen. Er machte seinen ersten Universitäts-Abschluss mit Auszeichnung in Biologie an der University of Southern California und arbeitete in der Krebsforschung. Aus dieser Zeit liegen drei wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen vor. Danach studierte er Musik an der California State University bei Professor Nathaniel Gangursky und wurde Mitglied des San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Im Rahmen von Stipendien von Fulbright/DAAD und Rotary International kam er nach Deutschland. Vor seiner Berufung nach Berlin war er Professor für Kontrabass an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Er ist durch Rundfunk- und Schallplattenaufnahmen und Konzerte sowie Meisterkurse international bekannt. Seine wichtigste Veröffentlichung als Kontrabass-Dozent ist die Kontrabass-Methode "Grundlagen der Kontrabass-Technik", Schott Musik, Mainz 2007, ISBN 978-3-7957-8732-5.
