After a long time of research on musical techniques found in Greek traditional music, the composer wrote this piece dealing with his cultural background, using applied dramaturgical strategies derived from theatre such as ancient tragedy. Yriaeas is a quite theatrical and intense piece. The performers function as theatrical characters while their music tries to achieve the phrasing qualities of language. Solos, duets and trios struggle for hierarchy and presence on stage: it is an altered re-enactment of a disbanded episode (composer's notes).
