Spyros Raftopoulos started his musical studies with guitar and piano lessons. Then he studied music theory and composition at the National Conservatory of Athens, Nikos Skalkotas Conservatory, the Municipal Conservatory of Hellenikon and other institutions. He has taught music for many years at music schools and conservatories. He is co-founder of the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens and has been a director of several music institutions. He has been president of ΕΝ.Ι.Α.Μ.Ε.Ι. (Greek Music Institutions Owners Union) and is a member of the Greek Composers Union. He has worked as an arranger and conductor of the Orchestra of Contemporary Music of the Greek Radio and Television. He is co-author of the books Jazz and Harmony counterpoint and structure in J.S. Bach's keyboard music. His compositions include chamber, vocal and orchestral music. His latest works are De brevitate amoris for violin, saxophone and piano, Shouts of the night for string orchestra and Treatise on mannequins for full orchestra.
